The MICROMINE Africa team travelled to the North-Eastern parts of South Africa for the Mining and Technical Exhibition at Modikwa Platinum Mine. Renier Strydom, Lee Bothma, Craig Sternslow, Kayleigh Cooper and Daniel Oosthuizen visited the mine which is located 15km Northwest of Burgersfort, their operation comprises an underground mine with 3 shafts and a concentrator. The mine focus is on PGM’s.
The focus of the trip was a pilot study into MTE (Mining and Technical Exhibition), and whether attending more of these events throughout the year would prove profitable. As the exhibition features at multiple mines through the year.
The setup was relatively easy, pull up banners, table and chairs layout and wait…. The employees from the mine came through from 12pm to 4pm with name badges representing their respective departments, namely EXCO, Engineering, Mining, Administration, MRM, SHEQ and Projects. As they walked around the exhibition, MICROMINE staff engaged with different departments to find out their needs and requirements, as well as current systems and practices in place.
Lee Bothma (Senior Development Manager) caught up with the Head of Engineering and the feeling was they quickly became excited about Pitram, disclosing the need for such a solution at their mine.
Overall it was a good trip and we definitely see the benefits to attending these events in the future. The Pitram team will be out on site developing a scope in the near future, proving the event was a success.
