On October 12th, the 6th MICROMINE User Conference was held in Moscow. Traditionally held on the final day of the MINEX Russia Forum, the annual conference invites geological and mining specialists, mining students, and representatives from universities and state organisations to discuss methods for solving production tasks and to exchange their knowledge.
This year’s conference was attended by over 150 guests, a new record, and with the increasing popularity of the event numbers are expected to grow again next year.
MICROMINE Russia Regional Manager, Boris Kurtsev, opened the conference by welcoming guests and discussing current trends and existing prospects within the industry. Following this were a number of presentations by representatives of various mining companies.
Specialists from Nornickel (OJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel) reported on the integration of Micromine in the Nornickel project which is used at the majority of the company’s sites. Their presentations touched upon the implementation prerequisites and the challenges that arose when integrating the software into the various sectors of the mines.
The topic of databases, including the implementation of Geobank in field work, was also touched upon in the report. The introduction of Geobank not only provided a central storage for geological data but also helped with reducing the number of errors.
Another popular topic was the education and training of the next generation of mining and geological specialists. Guests were told about the various Olympiads and competitions for students as well as the process of integrating the IT system into the curriculum at the National University of Science and Technology MISiS. During the discussions, teachers and students provided their insight into the issue which helped to generate a lot of ideas and talking points.
At the end of the conference, a ceremony recognised the best speakers as chosen by attendees.
We’d like to thank all the guests for participating in the discussion and to the presenters for their reports. Visit our Russian website to see videos of the presentations.
