On September 15th the National University of Science and Technology MISiS celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Moscow Mining Academy. The event, Meeting of Generations, was held at Gorky Park in the heart of Moscow and attracted a huge crowd of over 4000 students and graduates from MISiS.
Representatives from MICROMINE’s Russia office attended the event where they presented the University staff with two gifts. The first gift was a symbolic glass plaque with a 3D picture of the first Moscow Mining Academy’s building constructed in 1918. The second gift was ten new computers, each with dual monitors and Micromine software licenses for the students at the Mining Institute to use throughout their studies.
The gifts were presented by Boris Kurtsev, MICROMINE Russia Regional Manager, to Vadim Petrov, Academic Vice-President, Aleksandr Myaskov, Director of the Mining Institute, and Vladimir Melnik, Head of the Mineral Exploitation Geotechnology Department at MISiS. This was the seventh time MICROMINE has provided a university or college with computers and Micromine software. This tradition started in 2011, when the Russian State Geological Exploration University named after Sergo Ordzhonikidze received the first set of ten MICROMINE computers. The MICROMINE Russia team plans to continue the tradition and aims to improve students access to high end computer systems and mining software during their education.
Two Moscow State Mining University graduates are now working at MICROMINE Russia, including Boris Kurtsev, who graduated from the Ore and Non-Metalliferous Deposits Development Department in 2005 and Grigory Fedotov, Micromine Senior Technical Specialist and Micromine training instructor, who is also a postgraduate student of NUST MISiS.
Official congratulations from Boris Kurtsev, MICROMINE Russia General Director (Translated):
“On behalf of MICROMINE, I would like to congratulate the Moscow Mining Academy with all my heart on such a remarkable anniversary!
A lot of worthy people and professionals came out of the courses at NUST MISiS, whether they are mine workers or leaders of the country’s largest companies, all of them maintain the development of the mining industry at a consistently high level and boost the constant and growing demand for highly qualified and well-trained personnel. This, in turn, ensures a constant flow of new students looking to attend and graduate from the NUST MISiS courses.
We hope this cycle continues for many decades and centuries ahead!”
