MICROMINE launches Micromine 2018 in Perth

Last week MICROMINE’s Perth office held the Australian launch of Micromine 2018, the latest version of its market leading 3D modelling and mine design solution. Held at Beaumonde on the Point in East Perth, the event provided an opportunity for Micromine users to find out more about the latest features and enhancements for Micromine 2018 and how they can benefit their operation.

The event included a series of presentations from keynote speaker and Micromine Technical Product Manager Frank Bilki, followed by a live demonstration of Micromine 2018.

Welcoming clients and attendees to the event was MICROMINE CEO, Claire Tuder. Tuder spoke about the hard work done by the Micromine global development team “It has been a busy 12 months for our Micromine team who have been working hard on the latest features and enhancements for the software. Our goal is to make our client’s job easier and Micromine 2018 certainly has the necessary tools to achieve this”.

Tuder also presented one of the first ever DOS versions of Micromine from over 20 years ago which gave the crowd an understanding of how far the product has come over the years.

Technical Product Manager for Micromine, Frank Bilki provided an overview of the journey to the 2018 release and showcased some of the new features and enhancements including major enhancements to the DATA file, improved search ellipsoid, new native CAD, new drillhole tools and many others.

Bilki also presented the new Micromine 2018 licensing system which works with or without a dongle and includes the ability to temporarily borrow a network license without the need for a dongle or persistent network connection. This will mean more flexibility for Micromine users.

Bilki commented “the new licensing system provides our clients with more options when it comes to their licensing needs. The system maximises utilisation and allows for quick and easy access to the software.”

Guests then heard a special presentation from Bradley Toms who is Exploration Manager at Excelsior Gold and a Micromine user for over 20 years. Toms provided an overview of Excelsior Golds northern Goldfields project and some of the modern exploration techniques they are applying including the use of Micromine for 3D modelling and mine planning.

Toms commented on the usability of Micromine “Micromine is easy to learn and has great visuals which makes the data easier to work with.”

Frank Bilki then provided a 45-minute live demonstration of Micromine 2018, providing guests with an insight into the new features in a real-world scenario. Bilki showcased features such as wireframing function, string smoothing methods and 3D seismic applications.

To conclude the formalities attendees participated in a Q&A session which generated some great discussion around the application of the new features for Micromine 2018. Following the presentations, clients were invited to enjoy a few drinks and some canapes overlooking WA’s iconic Swan River.

Once again, the talented Fern Lecuna was on hand to provide a live illustration of the events ‘proceedings.  You can check out his work below:
