MICROMINE Africa attends the West Africa Mining Power Expo 2018

Regional Manager for Africa, Renier Strydom jaunted to Ghana, West Africa to attend the West African Mining & Power Expo( WAMPEX) held at the Accra International Convention Centre.

“I  travelled to site on the 30th, using South African Airways flight 209 (also known as the DC flight), from Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International Airport. It was a pretty interesting flight as I was joined by some of the Springbok rugby players and coaching staff on their way to the States for the Springbok vs Wales test.” Renier’s arrival in Accra was late Wednesday night with the weather being VERY hot and humid.

Thursday was off to an early start, partly due to the time difference with SA and efforts to avoid morning traffic. Traffic, at the best of times, is chaotic and random to say the least. Travel tip, use a local taxi!

WAMPEX is a major expo in the region, attracting over 1400 industry professionals from more than 16 countries, making it one of the most important industry meeting places. Exhibitors from around the world participate at WAMPEX to showcase latest technologies, innovations and products. Major sponsors for WAMPEX were Goldfields,  Newmont Africa, with AngloGold Ashanti also contributing to the expo.

MICROMINE is continuing to build its presence throughout Africa and WAMPEX provides MICROMINE with the perfect opportunity to showcase its offerings to the African mining communities.

The expo was well attended with exhibitors more focused on hardware and consumables, with little presence by software suppliers. There was a strong South African and Indonesian presence with what seemed to be separate isles housing these country stands.

Forum discussions on the Thursday and Friday were focused on investment and accounting; with key themes along Accounting practises, particularly focused on reducing corruption within Ghana and the mining industry.

MICROMINE recently signed a new Distributor Agreement with ACT-ICT who was also in attendance at the expo. ACT-ICT, under the leadership of CEO Roy Chay, will be responsible for promoting and distributing MICROMINE solutions within the Republic of Ghana, as well as delivery of auxiliary services to facilitate project work.

ACT-ICT didn’t waste any time adding MICROMINE to their portfolio with branding already in place!

In addition to attending the expo, time was also spent with Roy and his team to familiarise them with MICROMINE’s product offerings.

Overall the show was positive with even a number of attendees recognizing the MICROMINE branded clothing.
