The Micromine USA office enjoyed attending this year’s Society for Mining, Metallurgy, & Exploration (SME) conference and expo in their hometown of Denver, Colorado this past week. SME is an annual gathering of over 6,000 industry professionals from across the world. The show was themed, “Smart Mining: Resources for a Connected World.” It is a great time to focus on best practices, industry leading research, and promote innovative ideas for the mining industry.
Colorado has a rich mining history and continues to be an area of active mining with many companies based out of Denver. The Pike’s Peak Gold Rush first brought prospectors to the area where they established a mining town, modern day Denver. The SME conference this year enjoyed a positive outlook on the mining industry, a good pairing with the historic mining town. It was exciting to see optimism in the industry and a new crop of engineering and geologic talent out at the show. Industry professionals and students alike were keen to see the innovative solutions MICROMINE was bringing to the mining industry and how we are making mining easier.
The MICROMINE team enjoyed talking about our intuitive mining solutions with clients, students, and mining professionals from across the world. We fit right in with the theme of “Smart Mining”, presenting Geobank, Micromine, and Pitram. It was a pleasure to talk with clients about what they are working on with our products. The variety of problems MICROMINE products can solve is fun to hear about. It is always interesting to talk with new clients about best practices and how to best use the product in their situation.
Attendees were impressed with both the variety of software MICROMINE offers and the depth of features provided in each of the respective product lines, Geobank, Micromine, and Pitram. There was excitement about the existing and upcoming mining tools found in Micromine. Pitram drew lots of interest due to its strong reputation for cost-savings and quality in the industry. Geobank was looked on favorably for its ability to be a single point of truth and easily mesh with Geobank Mobile to facilitate field data collection.
Data management was the central theme of one of the technical sessions, “Mining & Exploration: Operations: Mine Data Management”, where industry experts and academics both focused on how best to deal with mining data. Presentations were mainly about how to deliver the best results in the data driven mining world of today. The focus of this session was echoed in the expo hall where data collection and management were prevalent. Geobank is a great example of a product focused on data management and usability for the modern day mine.
We enjoyed being part of the show and look forward to being back next year.
