Micromine Training: Block Modelling

The advanced courses are for experienced users who want to achieve ‘best practice’ use of Micromine. The skills acquired in these courses will enable trainees to use all of the functions that are relevant to their needs, maximising their individual productivity levels.

The Block Modelling course gives you the skills to evaluate your resources by introducing some of the more sophisticated functions of Micromine. This course is run in conjunction with the one day Geostatistics and Kriging course. If a classical (non-geostatistical) model is sufficient for your needs, you can chose to attend the Block Modelling course only. By attending both courses however, you will be fully equipped to build a geostatistical model of your project.

What will I learn?

Upon completion of the course, you will:

  • Understand how to calculate mean, median, mode, weighted mean, variance and standard deviation
  • Understand the importance of the coefficient of variation
  • Know how to set up and use a histogram to determine skewness and the presence of mixed grade populations
  • Use a histogram to statistically decompose mixed grade populations

You will also be proficient in:

  • Data preparation, import and validation
  • Using classical statistics to determine the natural (geological) cut-off and top cut values
  • Interpretation and wireframing, includingmodelling soft and hard boundaries
  • Global volume estimation and data flagging
  • Sample compositing
  • Calculating a reference global grade/tonnage estimate
  • Creating an empty block model
  • Determining the best block size and subblocking strategy
  • Choosing discretisation and point search strategies
  • Defining a search ellipsoid
  • Grade interpolation
  • Resource reporting
  • Understanding classification tools such as multiple interpolation runs
  • Model validation and classification
  • Constructing a grade-tonnage report and curve

Who is it suitable for?

 Micromine users who have advanced knowledge of Micromine and are heavily involved in the resource evaluation process.

Prerequisites

 All attendees must have completed the advanced exploration course or have advanced knowledge of Micromine.

How long is the course?

 12 days. All participants will receive comprehensive training notes and training data on disk, with the option of purchasing a hard copy manual. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
