Micromine assists Thor Mining with Bonya Copper Maiden Resource Estimate

The Board of Thor Mining recently announced its initial mineral resource estimate for the historic Bonya Copper Mine deposit in the Northern Territory of Australia. Thor Mining utilised Micromine software to create and substantiate the resource estimate.

Thor is a minerals exploration and development company focused on exploring and developing specialty metals projects.

The Bonya Copper deposit, located near the Molyhil mine project, has an initial resource estimate of 230,000 tonnes at a grade of 2% Copper (Cu), containing 4,600 tonnes of copper, with trace levels of tungsten (WO₃) and molybdenum (Mo). Thor Mining is able to use open cut extraction for large parts of the resource.

Thor Mining utilised Micromine 3D modelling and mine design solution to assist in the resource estimation process at the Bonya project. Micromine is a sophisticated and robust software solution that provides intuitive tools to assist mining and exploration companies with key tasks such as modelling, estimation, design, optimisation and scheduling.

Micromine includes a dedicated Resource Estimation module, which is used for detailed resource analysis and reporting. It provides a comprehensive range of modelling-related functions with many of its block modelling tools also used for mine planning and reserve estimation.

Thor Mining utilised the software for crucial tasks such as generating mineralisation wireframes in Implicit Modelling. Grade estimation was also completed using Kriging into a single mineralised domain using Micromine software. Variography was also undertaken on the grade domain composite data.

Grade continuity analysis was undertaken in Micromine where a series of block models were created of the Bonya deposit using certain parameters, these block models will assist the company in future mine planning.  Mineralisation and geological wireframes were used to flag the drill hole intercepts in the drill hole assay file with the flagged intercepts then used to create composites in Micromine.
