On the 23rd of March 2018 MICROMINE Africa hosted a breakfast launch event to introduce Geobank 2018 to current clients and prospects. The event was held at the Protea Hotel by Marriot in Wanderers, Johannesburg.
With the recent torrential rains some of the guests could not make it due to safety concerns, fortunately we still had a great turnout from our guests. Attendees at the event included users and management staff from companies such as Samancor Chrome, Glencore, Sepfluor, Shango Solutions, Sound Mining, South32, Trafigura, Universal Coal and Sugar Bush Consultancy amongst others.
Guests arrived at around 9am and were welcomed by MICROMINE Business Development Manager Monray Schoeman who was the MC for the event. Monray provided the group with a brief overview of the event and introduced Geobank 2018. The Protea Hotel prepared a beautiful breakfast for guests to enjoy which was the only thing on our guests minds after dealing with the insane Johannesburg traffic.
Once breakfast concluded, Monray introduced Daniel Oosthuizen, MICROMINE Africa’s Senior Geobank Specialist, who presented the Geobank Journey as well as the new features and functionalities that Geobank 2018 will provide to our clients. Following this, Daniel conducted a brief demonstration of Geobank 2018 showing the functionalities in real time while providing practical examples of how this would assist users in their day to day operations.
The group then took a short break for tea where the team spent time discussing the new features for Geobank 2018 with guests.
After the break Monray introduced Karin van Deventer, who was our guest speaker for the event. Karin has over 20 years in the South African mining market with a substantial portion of that time spent in the coal markets. The presentation focused on the current mining industry trends for South Africa and for Coal mining in South Africa, the role consultants play in the industry and also some of the educational trends for geology students. These topics all related well to our audience and ensured the event was relevant to what our guests were talking and thinking about regularly.
Karins presentation was followed by a Q&A session chaired by Monray Schoeman where guests were provided an opportunity to ask some difficult questions to Daniel and Karin. All parties handled the questions well and guests were left quite satisfied with the feedback they received.
