Micromine Africa was invited to present at the Geological Society of South Africa (GSSA) Technology Day and African Exploration Showcase. The events took place at the Glenhove Conferencing Venue in Rosebank, Johannesburg, starting on the 15th and ending 16th November.
The aim of the two days was to showcase the latest technology developments and methods being applied in exploration as well as the exciting exploration projects that are significant to the African continent. This event is in its 5th year running and provided a platform where geologists and members from related disciplines can meet and share ideas on advances in existing and emerging technologies.
We took the opportunity to ask Thandile Dlokweni from Kumba Iron Ore to present the “Geotechnical Applications of Micromine at Kumba Iron Ore” straight after lunch on the first day. His presentation was well received, and the audience was fully engaged and plenty of questions were asked. Craig Smith, Executive Manager at the GSSA asked if it is common for geological modelling software, in this case Micromine, to be used the way it has been at Kumba Iron Ores Geotechnical Division. Thandile’s response was that when he has presented his findings and methodologies its always well received and he finds that very little literature is available about creating geotechnical 3D models especially with regards to using interpolation methods like krigging.
We thank Thandile and Kumba Iron Ore for presenting on our behalf, you truly are a friend of Micromine.
