Meet Kayleigh Cooper

MICROMINE is known as the leading Software Solution Brand in Mining. We’re loved for our innovative mining solutions but also our people. Meet MICROMINE Africa’s Kayleigh Cooper who is the Micromine Training & Support Consultant.

Who are you?

I am Kayleigh Cooper, I am a geologist who enjoys travelling to remote places in Africa. Born and raised in Benoni I’ve always had a keen interest in history which subsequently lead to my interests in geology. My hobbies include being a mum to a very energetic four year old and if I have any spare time from that I enjoy reading and listening to music. I’m passionate about problem-solving and refuse to take no for an answer.

What is your background in Mining?

I obtained a bachelor’s degree in science (Honours) from the University of Johannesburg shortly thereafter I entered into the Anglo American Platinum graduate program. I worked my way up to Section Geologist at Mogalakwena Platinum Mine supervising sampling teams and managing the sample QAQC programme for the Operation. 3 Years later I had the opportunity to work for the mining consultancy company Sound Mining Solution gaining experience as a Resource Geologist. During those 7 years I became a member of the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions and became involved in Mineral Resource Estimations for various commodities, but primarily in Fluorspar, Chrome and Platinum. The majority of the time spent at Sound Mining involved geological modelling (using Micromine) and compiling or auditing technical reports ( including desktop, Scoping, Competent Persons Report and Feasibility Studies). Due to my background in geological modelling and experience with Micromine I was able to move to Micromine Africa in October 2017 as the Training and Support Constant for Africa where I have been busy ever since.

Why do you love using Micromine?

My motto is that there is always a way to do something in Micromine and I truly do believe that. Sometimes I need to think outside the box for a solution and Micromine is flexible enough to allow me to do that. Being thrown into the deep end at the beginning of my career when it came to consulting I found that Micromine was easy to pick up and quite straightforward.

Why do you love working at MICROMINE Africa?

Not only do I have the support I need from the Johannesburg office but I have access to professionals with a wealth of knowledge across the world. I’m encouraged to think outside the box and to also give input into the development side of the software. The team I work with are energetic and create a fun working environment with the Business Development Managers always keeping me on my toes.

How does your role at MICROMINE Africa add value?

Micromine has always had that personal touch and being a Training and Support Consultant, I can interact with clients across Africa. Having a point of contact makes them feel more comfortable approaching Micromine with general user questions and they know they will get a quick response from our Support. With my experience and geological background, I have the understanding and patience for training and supporting our clients especially if its first-time Micromine users.
