Who are you?
I am Donovan Coetzee, I am a Geobank Database Management Specialist, with a strong SQL Server background, I love problem solving and finding dynamic efficient ways to solve problems. I am passionate about optimisation both in my work and personally with diet and lifestyle. I have recently taken up climbing and yoga which I enjoy thoroughly. I believe life is about balance and to excel in one area you need to excel in all areas of life.
What is your background in Mining?
My first introduction to mining came as a BI Developer for Isometrix, a health and safety compliance organisation. It wasn’t until I started working at MICROMINE that I was properly exposed to the mining industry, without much prior knowledge of mining the learning curve has been steep but very rewarding. I am constantly learning and being faced with new challenges.
Why do you love using Geobank?
My favorite thing about Geobank is how flexible it is and the fact that it runs off of SQL server, this means that anything I can do in SQL I can do with Geobank. It is great to see how Geobank helps simplify peoples jobs and makes them more efficient, ultimately understanding how the management of a mines data impacts the lives of many people is very rewarding.
Why do you love working at MICROMINE?
Working at MICROMINE is great because I am given creative flexibility in my job, I am afforded the opportunity to get involved in the improvement of the product, there is always a challenge which keeps me on my toes, I get to travel and see new places and the people are helpful across all the offices. Finally, MICROMINE promotes living a balanced life and the office is a comfortable nice place to be.
How does your role at MICROMINE Africa add value?
I provide systems which are simple, easy to use, improve productivity, reduce risk and overall improve the experience of our clients. I strive to release systems which not only ticks the boxes of the deliverables but that I am also proud of and confident in.
