Geobank Training: Sample Tracker

The Geobank Sample Tracker course is a Level 2 course. It is designed to provide participants with the skills required to use Geobank’s Sample Tracker module to manage sample data and XRF data, work with laboratories and provide QAQC reporting.

The course teaches you how to use the Geobank Sample Tracker Module. The first part, Despatches, looks at the process of sending field samples to laboratories for assay (external, in-house or XRF). The second part, Receipts, covers sample results sent back from the laboratories that are cross checked against samples despatched. The third part, analysis, covers the configuration of the Geobank quality control charts (“Shewhart”, “R”, “XY”) and reports which allow users to analyse results and provide QAQC reporting.

What will I learn?

Upon completion of the course, you will be familiar with the Geobank Sample Tracker module and its underlying data model, as well as having the skills to:

  • Configure sample despatch processes, including analyses, lab preparation and despatch reports for laboratories
  • Process sample despatch, building sample lists; adding QA/QC samples at regular intervals and generating sample tags
  • Configure the receipt of lab assay results
  • View QAQC reports on sample results during the receipt, and identify lab-repeats, splits and incorrect data entry
  • Display the analytical results of the receipt process in a “Shewhart” or “R” chart
  • Handle multiple receipts/ lab jobs from one despatch
  • Use and interpret the pre-installed Sample Tracker data views
  • Configure and use Sample Tracker to meet sample management processes/requirements
  • Import, process and report on XRF data and compare it to laboratory assay results
  • Use XY or correlation charts to make a broad range or QAQC comparisons. (e.g. routine to repeat, lab comparison, method comparison, analyte comparison)
  • Define your own datasets for use with the quality control charts including “XY” charts
  • Use further QAQC reports in Geobank’s advanced reporting module

Who is it suitable for?

 This course is designed for those who manage sample and assay data, administrate sample despatching or who participate in quality control and other QAQC processes.

Prerequisites

 All attendees must have achieved qualification on the Level 1 Introduction to Geobank course or have shown competence in using Geobank. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance.

How long is the course?

 1 day. All participants will receive comprehensive training notes and training data on disk with the option of purchasing a hard copy manual. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

What style do the courses take?

 Class sizes are usually eight or less participants. This gives plenty of opportunity for individual attention. Hands-on exercises are provided at every stage during the course. Exercises use a broad-based training dataset to highlight common and familiar scenarios. For post-implementation in-house courses, the training can be customised to use your own data.
