Geobank Training: Introduction to Geobank

The Introduction to Geobank course is a Level 1 course. It is designed to introduce Geobank and the key database management concepts. The course is based around a real life example; the management of a set of drilling data.

The course gives you an overview of Geobank and how it can assist you with your work. It covers the Geobank User Interface, the use of queries, data views, import/export routines and reports.

What will I learn?

Upon completion of the course, you will be able to:

  • Use the Geobank user interface and its various tools
  • Understand the various Geobank modules and their licensing
  • Understand data management fundamentals
  • Understand Basic Database concepts
  • Use the online help
  • Understand profiles, task lists, tasks and specific user roles
  • Understand Geobank data logging processes
  • nstall Geobank and enable the security key
  • Handle drill hole and point sampling data in Geobank
  • Import validate and promote data
  • Create, browse and manage data using Geobank data views
  • Query, filter and search data effectively
  • Run and browse tabular and graphic reports
  • Run Advanced Reports
  • Use the import / export routines for interfacing with external applications
  • Manage lookups and lists of Geological reference codes
  • Work with images (e.g. core photos)

Who is it suitable for?
  • New users of Geobank
  • Previous Geobank (or GBIS) users who haven’t used the software for an extended period

Prerequisites

 A basic familiarity with computers would be an advantage but is not essential. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance.

How long is the course?

 This is run as either a half-day or full-day course. All participants will receive comprehensive training notes and training data on disk with the option of purchasing a hard copy manual. Refreshments are provided, and when run in the full-day format, lunch is provided.

What style do the courses take?

 Class sizes are usually eight or less participants. This gives plenty of opportunity for individual attention. Hands-on exercises are provided at every stage during the course. Exercises use a broad-based training dataset to highlight common and familiar scenarios. For post-implementation in-house courses, the training can be customised to use your own data.
