Not really Renier but how it felt when we were driving
Last week I visited our MICROMINE office in Johannesburg. The trip was an opportunity to meet the team, discuss the Geobank Product Roadmap and also meet clients. I flew into Jo’burg on Sunday and after a rest, I was picked up by Regional Manager, Renier Strydom in his Honda S2000 convertible and headed to his house for a Braai (The Braai is a traditional Afrikaans BBQ – I got my protein fill of steak, ribs and boerewors that’s for sure) with his family.
The next day I went into the office and met all the team. The office is in a nice complex in Bryanston, not far from the hotel. With HQ based out of Perth, Western Australia, it’s always great to meet the team in person (as I have been talking to them about projects and development for a year now) and put faces to names.

My week was mostly spent meeting with Geobank staff (Danie and Donovan) and clients to discuss the Geobank development strategy, roadmap and detail on particular projects. I was lucky enough to catch up with some friends whilst I was in town (one who lives about 10minutes away from my house in Perth but who also happened to be in town that week) and another old colleague (who lives in Jo’burg but was good enough to come and have a few beers with me at the hotel). I say good enough because driving anywhere in Jo’burg can be a task.
My last day in Jo’burg, it was Danie’s birthday and we all went out for a steak at the teams favourite local steak house (Baron’s). Baron’s doesn’t much go in for greenery on the plate but I did try the steak and it was excellent.

One of the best things to me about travelling is learning some of the local lingo. I always try and find a few words to say in places I visit. In South Africa they speak English, but not the kind of English we are used too – – they call traffic lights Robots!

Left at the robot…
Thanks for reading! Until my next adventure…..
